The front-end of Web-based publishing ideally should be combined with a back-end of Web-Based Services, creating an environment in which all forms of information and service reuse are supported. Publishing increasingly not is just for an end-user, but for intermediaries, which aggregate and filter content to implement distributed and heterogeneous publishing pipelines. XML Technologies and syndication methods such as Atom Publishing are ideally suited to provide a solid and flexible foundation and to start with standard technologies, avoiding lock-in and the widest possible range of clients and customers.
